Costa Rica Group Tours

Your leader on these special tours will be our Senior Guide, Rafael Campos. Former Assistant Curator for the University of Costa Rica and Field Assistant to Gary Stiles (author of A Guide to the Birds of Costa Rica), Rafa is recognized as one of Costa Rica’s finest naturalists. A Caligo Ventures tour leader for more than two decades, his Central American experience includes studies on birds, bats, and primates as well as a number of botanical surveys.


Southern & Central Volcanic Highlights

March 10-20, 2012 • $2,995, per person plus airfare.

This tour explores the best of Southern Costa Rica, visiting in succession the Trogon Lodge in the Talamanca Highlands, the Hotel Villa Lapas on the Central Pacific Coast near Jaco, the Hacienda La Pacifica in the Guanacaste province, and the lovely La Quinta de Sarapiqui Inn, near La Selva OTS Biological Station. Along the way we will seek out such species as Resplendent Quetzal, Black-and-Yellow Silky Flycatcher, Volcano Junco, Scarlet Macaw, Jabiru, Collared Forest-­Falcon, White-throated Magpie-Jay, White-necked Puffbird, Tody Motmot, Yellow-eared Toucanet, Sun Bittern, Snowy Cotinga, and Crested Guan.
